BIOGRAPHY
"Equilibrio", the new stunning rock opera by Xystus, saw it's premiere on the 4th of July, Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn, Netherlands. Never before had the world seen a show in the likes of this: A full eighty piece orchestra, thirty singers and dancers, and ahighly professional cast consisting of Simone Simons (Epica), George Oosthoek (Orphanage), John Vooijs (Tarzan) and Michelle Splietelhof (Les Miserables). Main character of the show being played by Xystus' frontman, Bas Dolmans. The roadto bring the more than 4000 visitors this show was a long one, a two year one to be exact.
Xystus itself was found in 1999, by singer/guitar player Bas Dolmans, and drummer Ivo van Dijk. In 2004 the first release, entitled "Receiving Tomorrow" saw the iight of day, where upon new found guitar player Bob Wijtsma joined the band. The first album got raving reviews in the national press, scoring an average of a solid 9, where shortly after the band toured Europe with Epica, Trail of Tears, and played with established acts such as Kamelot, Evergrey and Machine Head. Upon the release of the band's second album, "Surreal", a fast but important switch in the line-up was made. New bassplayer Mark Brekelmans joined the band, and five months later Xystus had it's first official synth player: Joris van de Kerkhof.
While both albums were hailed as a fresh breeze in the Dutch metal scene, the band never got the chance to expandtheir borders. But, with the new album "Equilibrio" all this is about to change... This album is different from a "normal" Xystus album, but it still holds all the ingredients of what the band normally does: Catchy symphonic oriented music with a progressive touch. What's the difference? About 84 other musicians that are also on this album!
Besides the album a DVD with the full show which was played on the 4th of july will be released later this year.
